Rehearsal Synopsis REHEARSAL is a play about people rehearsing a staged reading based on the novel, THE GOD HUSTLERS, a story about religious cults and the nature of evil. The character Wolfe who plays both the director of the staged reading and the part of the African-American cult leader Ahmad Sadiq in the staged reading tells the audience that they will be seeing "a series of moments in time", fragments of rehearsals of the multi-cultural production. One of the characters is Mary, a white writer and the author of both productions and the novel on which they are based. She has invited people to perform in her staged reading; there have been no auditions. Some of these people are professional actors, and some have never acted before. They all find themselves being unexpectedly affected by their characters and by the rehearsal process in which they are involved. In the play, there are straightforward scenes in which the characters work on their parts with Wolfe and discuss them with each other, and there are moments where the characters reflect on their parts and communicate only with the audience. THE GOD HUSTLERS' scenes provide a series of intense dramatic moments. Gradually, the characters learn profound things about themselves and begin to grow through the people they have been playing. As important is the understanding they begin to have of each other and of their various cultures. One of the characters talks about cults "killing people's souls". REHEARSAL is about liberating people's souls. LIST OF CHARACTERS
Offstage voices are played by various members of the cast who go offstage.
